Berkeley Man on Trial, Boating Accident Leaves 1 Dead

New Jersey accident lawyer

This Wednesday Berkeley, NJ resident Trevor Murphey (18) will go on trial for his negligence in a boating accident, which left one dead. In the early morning hours on June 10 of this year recent Central Regional High School graduates, Trevor Murphey and Ryan Worrall, took a canoe out on Barnegat Bay. According to Berkeley Patch, the men went out on the water after attending a graduation party. The canoe overturned sending both men into the water. Murphey made it to shore—Worrall did not.

Murphey did not report the accident for reasons unknown. Worrall’s body was discovered by an off-duty State Police officer later that afternoon. Patch explained that the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s office ruled Worrall’s death an accidental drowning.

The failure to report the accident has now landed Murphey in legal hot-water and his trial will begin Wednesday morning. At his arraignment on September 28, Murphey pled not guilty to the charges against him, failure to report a fatal boat accident and reckless operation of a vessel.
