Our client’s trip down the New Jersey Turnpike, a route he took often, would be one that would forever change his life.

While innocently waiting his turn in line to pay the toll near Exit 4 in Mount Laurel, our client was rear ended when a man carelessly drove into another car causing that car to hit our client’s vehicle with a huge impact. At the scene, police officers issued a summons for careless driving to the driver of the van that caused the accident. Our client was taken directly from the scene of the accident to the hospital by ambulance.

At the hospital, he was diagnosed with cervical (neck) strain and lumbar (back) strain and was instructed that he could not return to work the next day and needed to follow-up with an orthopedic surgeon. Through further diagnostic testing and examination by specialists it was determined that as a direct result of the accident, our client had suffered six herniated disks, three bulging disks, and right carpal tunnel syndrome. He had to undergo a three-level fusion surgery to treat the injuries to his back.

Our client was in the course of his employment as a self-employed electrical contractor when the accident occurred. Since he was self-employed he was afforded no worker’s compensation coverage. Furthermore, his extensive and permanent injuries impeded his ability to continue working in the capacity he was before the accident. As a direct result of the car crash, our client had to hire additional workers to help with the more physical aspects of his job.

Following his accident, he initially signed with another attorney with whom he was unsatisfied with. Despite his extensive injuries, his previous lawyer advised him to accept a settlement of only 45,000 dollars, which he did not feel was adequate and began looking for other attorneys to assist him. When he made the decision to hire Console & Hollawell to represent him, his case was less than two months from the statute of limitations, meaning we had little time to properly prepare his case.
