Intestinal Trauma – $450‚000
A night of enjoying time with friends quickly became‚ with no notice‚ one of the worst days of our client’s life.
It was nearly five in the morning in June 2010‚ and our client was a backseat passenger in a car with some of her friends. As dawn approached‚ she fell asleep‚ lulled by the moving vehicle. Suddenly she was jilted awake as her friend lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree.
She was forced from peaceful slumber and wound up clenching her abdomen and chest in pain‚ barely responsive. When the accident responders arrived on the scene‚ all of the occupants had to be cut from the car with the jaws of life.
She and her friends were all transported to Hunterdon Medical Center. As a result of the car accident‚ our client suffered damage to her small intestine‚ a broken rib‚ a broken sternum‚ and a bruised heart. The intestinal trauma called for surgery in which three feet of her small intestine had to be removed.
In addition to the obvious‚ painful‚ and extensive injuries she sustained that morning‚ she was left with severe scarring both on her neck (caused by a deep laceration from the seatbelt) and her abdomen.
For the rest of her life she will be at an increased risk for serious bowel problems including small bowel obstructions and mid-line hernias.
A few weeks after she was released from the hospital following her accident‚ she contacted our firm. Together‚ we developed a legal strategy to ensure that she was compensated for her injuries‚ her lost wages‚ future medical costs‚ and the emotional trauma of this incident.
We were able to win her $450‚000 in compensation for this accident. Although she had been through a terrible ordeal‚ and was not sure where to turn‚ we were able to step in with help and advice to make sure she was taken care of and received the treatment she needed and the compensation she deserved.
